  • Union of two churches, unity within the church

I would like to congratulate First Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church in their successful merger – coming together as one church.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    By Charlene M. Jett
God was with us again at Evergreen Outreach – he never fails! We welcomed everyone with a bit of music from the “Down by the River to Pray” CD.
It was very good to get FAYCO and Fayette County Hospital LTC all together again! We sang our welcome song and our meeting songs a capella while three volunteers held up the big cards with words.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    By Charlene M. Jett
A truly wonderful day for Evergreen Outreach. The presence of the Lord was with us, as many of our FAYCO friends arrived.   We shared refreshments and cookies, and caught up on what happened after the extra-long cold winter interfered with our good times. Ugh!
We opened the program by singing “Happy Birthday” to Mary Woolsey, Beulah Brown, Tanya Robinson and Randy Schukar.

  • First Baptist, Temple Baptist now Unity Baptist

Three years ago, I wrote in the Minister’s Forum that Temple Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Vandalia had entered into a discussion about the possibility of merging into one new church.

  • Catholic Daughters members hear reports

The Mother of Dolors’ Catholic Daughters meeting on Jan. 5 was called to order by Regent Debby Themig, who opened with the pledge to the flag and one decade of the rosary for Brian and Virginia Garner. Everyone was asked to finish this rosary on their own.
Correspondence included thank-you cards from Bonnie Murray, Lighthouse Pregnancy Center and Port Arthur International Seafarers Center, and a letter from George Green with correct address for his mother, Gertrude Green.

  • We don't need resolutions – we need a new life

Are you a Christian? Likely most of you would say, “Of course” – I would not be reading the Minister’s Forum if I wasn’t a Christian.

  • Sometimes, we are able to answer our own prayers

A few years ago, making and keeping – or failing to keep – resolutions for the new year was more talked about than in recent years. But it is still important to set goals, and the New Year holiday is a great time to start fresh on a new journey.

  • VCA Christmas Program

Vandalia Christian Academy students presented their Christmas program on Friday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Vandalia.
