    Mother of Dolors meal is March 17

    The annual St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinner will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church Parish Center, 705 W. St. Clair St. in Vandalia.
    The menu will include corned beef and cabbage, ham, hot dogs, side dishes, desserts and drinks.
    The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 and up and free for children ages 5 and under. Carryouts are available by calling 283-8738.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    Beulah Brown welcomed everyone with the old greeting: "We’re all in our places with bright shiny faces." She has the wonderful gift of welcoming.
    We sang the "Outreach" and "Welcome" songs, and then sang "Happy Birthday" to Marge Tipsword, Donna Pruett, Tracy Stokes and Bill Whitehurst.
     It was good to see Bernie Ray back at the piano. She played some wonderful music,  including “You Belong to Me.”

    Augsburg chicken luncheon is Sunday

    The Ladies of Immanuel Augsburg Church in rural Shobonier will be hosting their annual chicken noodle luncheon this Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
    The menu consists of chicken noodle soup, chili, chicken salad sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches, hot dogs, desserts and drinks.
    A free-will offering will be taken.

    What a day! What a joy! On Monday, it was 70 degrees outside, but we enjoyed the spirit of Christmas inside Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church.
    Donna Smith greeted us with a medley of beautiful Christmas carols: “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” “There’s a Song in the Air” and “Joy to the World,” to name a few.
