  • Outdoor wedding vows prompt 'awesome silence'

It was a wedding. One would expect us to speak of the promises of God on which we stand. Promises of love that will never let us go; promises that are certain. It is sure, God says, “I will never, never, never, never, ever forsake you or abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Sounds are important. Sunday night, the gentle sound of rain falling was a wonderful thing. Listening for the stir of a baby during the night is another. The sound of beautiful music is always refreshing.
Such was the case on Monday as SoftFire began playing. David and Patricia Pence (known as SoftFire) have an assortment of musical instruments, and are also talented vocally. One of their early numbers was “What a Mighty God We Serve.”

In the beginning, God created the Garden of Eden for his children. In the midst of the garden grew the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. Every day of our lives, we make dozens of choices. Many of them are so easy that we do not even have to think about them.

After the drought and a little rain, the clouds felt like ice cream on the skin, so cool and soothing. In case you didn’t know it already, you made it through the worst drought since 1936.
Beverly Hood was the program manager at Evergreen Outreach on Monday, and Bernie Ray played the introductory music while everyone had refreshments and cookies from Barb McCart. Our main entertainers were Judy Vargas and Randy Schukar.

  • If our identity is rooted in Christ, it changes everything

A few days ago, I went to a local store to pick up a few things. As I was leaving, I heard young voices saying, "Mr. Dave, Mr. Dave." I walked on, but they got louder and more intense. I turned, waved and said "Hi."
