    April is officially the lawn and garden month, and many of us are delighted to be outside, enjoying the displays of flowers and trees.
    We also enjoy seeing all those who attend EO every Monday afternoon. This week, we met in the Fayette County Hospital LTC dining area.
    Arriving early, Pam Childers, our pianist, started the program with a variety of favorite tunes.
    Refreshments of cookies, iced tea and coffee were provided by the Evergreen volunteers group.

    Bankester Family to play at Liberty  

    The Bankester Family will perform at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown on April 15 at the 10 a.m. worship service and at a 6 p.m. concert.
    The group plays bluegrass-style  music, performed with instruments such as the banjo, fiddle, violin and mandolin.

    What a gorgeous day! Seems it would be a day to plant flowers, but I’m told one must wait until Mother’s Day. Surely, we will not have frost or snow after such a beautiful March. The dandelions don’t wait!
    David and Patricia Pence welcomed us with music. David said that since Palm Sunday will be this coming Sunday, and Easter will be the following Sunday, that their music would be related to the Easter season.

  • All in the Family

    Two sisters and one brother recently were baptized on the the same day at First Christian Church of Vandalia.

    The three, from left, are Breese Stilt, David Stilt and Mistie Stilt. They were baptized by the Rev. Robert Francisco, right. The three are children of John and Crystal Stilt. They were given new Bibles to celebrate the event.

    This time of year is about new beginnings, planning and organizing.
    We are enjoying the warmer days, filled with new activities which compete for our time and attention.
    Everyone attending Evergreen Outreach looks forward to our Monday afternoon programs. Many of those who attend arrive in the Operation OUTING bus, which provides free transportation for the nursing home residents. For many, this is the one chance each week to leave their facility.

    Game dinner to raise archery funds  

    Nimrod Outdoor Ministries is hosting a free wild game dinner on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on Ill. Route 185 northwest of Vandalia.
    The event will be a fundraiser for the youth archery ministry. Included will be door prizes, raffles and an auction. The grand prize is a new Diamond bow and tree stand package.
    Dinner will be a free-will offering. All proceeds will be used for new equipment for the youth ministry program.
