  • Life Chain Sunday

    Members of local churches participated in the annual Life Chain event, held locally at the intersection of Gallatin Street and Kennedy Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.

    Organizers of the event describe it as "peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for prayer for our nation and for an end to abortion."

  • Seven-week study at Northside Church

    A seven-week DVD study of 2 Timothy, “Entrusted,” is being held at Northside Christian Church.
    The study begins next Thursday, with sessions held at 6:30 p.m. Faye Watson is the teacher.
    An optional workbook is available for $19.

    St. James chili supper, quilt auction

    St. James Lutheran Church at 727 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia will hold its annual chili supper and a vintage quilt auction from 4-7 p.m. this Thursday, prior to the Lions Club Halloween Parade.
    The menu includes chili, hot dog or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drink. The cost is $6 per person.

    First Church of God
    hosting senior meal

    First Church of God, located at 3001 Thrill Hill Road northwest of Vandalia, will hold its monthly senior luncheon this Friday.
    All local seniors are invited to the luncheon, with this month's menu including sloppy Joe's, fruit salad, chips and cookies.
    The event begins at noon with the meal and a short Bible lesson.
    This month's entertainment will be John and Judy Roberts, and Cheryl Harre.
    There is no charge for the meal, but donations are accepted.

    Two cousins were in a wedding. Nine-year-old Josh was the brother of the bride and groomsman. Cousin Devin was 4 and the ring bearer.

  • Surrending to Christ makes us a new person

    Every child knows the story of David and Goliath, even if they have never attended church. Everyone loves that story! What’s not to love about it? It’s appealing to most of us, I believe, because it’s a story of the “little guy beating the big guy,” it’s the story of the “least of us” standing up to and defeating the “high and mighty.”
    We all love to see the underdog winning against the top dog, and that’s what is so appealing to us.

    MG church to host two free meals

    Two complimentary evening meals are being planned for the community of Mulberry Grove.
    This Thursday, First Church of Christ will be hosting a spaghetti and salad supper open to all children or adults who would like to attend.
    Then on Thursday, July 28, First Church of Christ will be hosting a fried chicken supper with trimmings at the church building.  This meal is also open to all adults or children who would like to attend.
