  • PTSD support group to be started in Vandalia

It should come as no surprise to you that there are many military veterans within our community suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – the same disorder many of you experienced after returning from war. As you can attest, if this disorder is left untreated, PTSD can destroy lives – the life of the individual suffering the disorder and the life of anyone close to them.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    A beautiful spring day set the tone for Monday's Evergreen Outreach meeting. Our pianist (Donna Smith) welcomed everyone, and the extra giant jumbo chocolate chip cookies, some with icing, were provided by Phyllis Rames. The Rev. James Fackler (with his joke book) was our leader, and we sang our traditional "Welcome" and "EO" songs.

    First Church of God to honor mothers

    First Church of God will be honoring mothers with a continental breakfast from 9:30-10:15 a.m. this Sunday.
    Mothers will also be honored during the worship service with a video program that features  responses from children of the church that were composed from Proverbs 31. The children also will be performing a song.
    The church is located at the corner of Thrill Hill Road and Lakewood Drive.

  • Hof Speaks At Prayer Breakfast

    Cindy Hof of Vandalia was the main speaker at last Thursday's National Day of Prayer breakfast at Crawford-Hale American Legion Home.

    She told the story of her daughter's recovery from a serious illness, and how that has become an opportunity to praise God. "When we trust in God, he gives us opportunities to live for him – to shine," she said. The breakfast was the culmination of a week-long series of prayer events at various locations around Vandalia. The Vandalia Ministerial Alliance coordinated the activities.

    It was another beautiful day for Evergreen Outreach on Monday. Entertaining those present were the Jefferson Primary School pre-school students. They sang several “fish” songs, per their unit study, assisted by two teachers, Mrs. Abendroth and Mrs. Smith, and two teacher aides.

  • Week Of Prayer

    Several prayer activities were held Sunday through Wednesday this week in preparation for the National Day of Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday at Crawford-Hale American Legion Home.

    Sunday was a kickoff prayer service at Parkview Free Methodist Church, and events were held Monday through Wednesday mornings at Vandalia Chamber of Commerce (first photo), Vandalia Community High School (second photo) and Fayette County Courthouse (third photo).

    Summer Lunches kickoff is Wednesday

    Once again, children in Fayette County will have the opportunity to get free lunches this summer through a program sponsored by several churches and facilitated through local volunteers.
    Called "Summer Lunches for Kids," the program starts the week of June 3 and runs through the week of Aug. 15. Meals are provided on Mondays and Thursdays in Vandalia, Vera and Shobonier, and on Wednesdays in Ramsey and Brownstown.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    The last days of April usher in thoughts of the tradition of May Day, which is celebrated as a spring festival in many countries. Little baskets of flowers were often placed on doors of friends and neighbors.
    So, not to be outdone, Evergreen Outreach  volunteers placed small May Day baskets on each of the tables, delighting those attending our Monday program.
    Charlene Jett set the stage for an enjoyable afternoon, leading in the “Welcome” and “EO” songs.
