  • Herrin – 40 Years

    Ivalee “Ivy” Stine Herrin and Snyder E. Herrin II of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ft. Worth, Texas, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
    Ivalee is the eldest daughter of the late Wayne R. “Sturdy” and Mabel E. (Justi) Stine. Snyder is the son of the late attorney Snyder E. and Norma Dot (Keen) Herrin of Herrin.

  • Faulkner – 50 Years

    Clayton and Maralia Faulkner of Herrick will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 18, with dinner and cake from noon-5 p.m. at the home of Sheila and Kevin Cutler in Lakewood.
    Clayton and the former Maralia Fouts were married on Sept. 18, 1960, at Union Christian Church of Ramsey.
    They are the parents of three children: Clayton Jr. of Herrick, Pam and her husband Ron Baker of Neoga, and Sheila and her husband Kevin Cutler of Lakewood.
    They have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    Ruth Halbrook
    Ruth Halbrook of Hillsboro will celebrate her 95th birthday on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

    Winona Childress
    Winona Childress of Brownstown will celebrate her 85th birthday with an open house from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Golden Years Club in Brownstown, hosted by her family.
     

  • Scott – Chewning

    Bode Courtney Scott and Sheryl Gaynelle Chewning were united in marriage on July 24, 2010, at Hollywood Church of the Brethren in Fredericksburg, Va., with The Rev. Dr. Roger Grimmett and the Rev. Rick Ritchie officiating the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Frank and Evelyn Jett of Fredericksburg, Va. She received a doctorate in physical therapy from the Medical College of Virginia and works as a physical therapist in Stafford County Schools.

  • Black – 65 Years

    The Rev. and Mrs. Eugene Black of Mattoon, and formerly of St. Elmo, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9.
    A family celebration is being planned for Sunday, Sept. 12.
    Their children and grandchildren are holding a card shower for them in celebration of the anniversary, as well as a celebration of 64 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church.
    Rev. and Mrs. Black were married on Sept. 9, 1945, in Vernon by the Rev. John Curtis.

  • Magnus & Williams – 50 Years

    Earl and Hazel Magnus of St. Peter and Robert and Janet Williams of Shobonier will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries this Saturday.
    Earl and the former Hazel Koss were married on Sept. 4, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Altamont.
    They are the parents of three children: Gregory of St. Peter, Sherri and her husband Randy Rhoads of Cedar Hill, Mo., and Susan and her husband Mark Kearns of Wildwood, Mo..
    They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

  • Meyer – 70 Years

    Elvis and Maxine Meyer of Mulberry Grove will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday in the fellowship room at Temple Baptist Church in Vandalia.
    Coffee, tea, punch and cake will be provided.
    Elvis and the former Maxine Thomas were married on Sept. 7, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo.
    Elvis is the son of the late Clyde and May Meyer of VanBurensburg.
    Maxine is the daughter of the late Earl and Helen Thomas of Vera.

  • Stunkel– Blankenship

    Andrea Stunkel and Tyler Blankenship, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Russ and Nancy Stunkel of Vandalia.
    The future groom is the son of Marion and Ramona Blankenship of Avena.
    The couple are planning a 3 p.m. outdoor wedding at the Vandalia Shrine Club on Saturday, Oct. 9. A reception will follow the ceremony with a dinner and dance at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
     

  • Washburn-Mulvaney Engagement

    LeAnna Washburn of Brownstown and Travis Mulvaney of Farina have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Jon and Leah Washburn of Brownstown. She is a 2003 graduate of Brownstown High School and is currently employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in ICU and Telemetry.
    The future groom is the son of Edward and Terri Mulvaney of Farina. He is a 2001 graduate of South Central High School and 2008 graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in elementary education.

  • Donates books to Evans Library

    Local author Amanda Springer, right, last week donated three of her books to Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Accepting the books was Evans' Librarian Jessica Blain. Books donated by Springer are "Investigating the Paranormal," "Midnight Poems" and "The Military Support Group," the latter of which Springer wrote to help families prepare for military deployment.
