  • Washburn-Mulvaney Engagement

    LeAnna Washburn of Brownstown and Travis Mulvaney of Farina have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Jon and Leah Washburn of Brownstown. She is a 2003 graduate of Brownstown High School and is currently employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in ICU and Telemetry.
    The future groom is the son of Edward and Terri Mulvaney of Farina. He is a 2001 graduate of South Central High School and 2008 graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in elementary education.

  • Donates books to Evans Library

    Local author Amanda Springer, right, last week donated three of her books to Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Accepting the books was Evans' Librarian Jessica Blain. Books donated by Springer are "Investigating the Paranormal," "Midnight Poems" and "The Military Support Group," the latter of which Springer wrote to help families prepare for military deployment.

  • Competing in Miss Illinois Teen Pageant

    Randi Evans, the daughter of Ronnie Evans of Vandalia and Tracy Evans of St. Elmo, will compete in the 2010 Miss Illinois Junior Teen Pageants on Sept. 5-6 at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles. Evans, a 14-year-old freshman at Vandalia Community High School, was the 2009 Junior Miss Fayette County.

    Cole Reunion
    Families of the late Easton and Alice Cole and Gabe and June Cole will hold a potluck dinner at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Bingham Town House.  For more information, call 267-0796.

    Kleinik Reunion
    The Kleinik reunion will be held Sunday at Patriots' Park in Greenville. The meal is at noon. Those attending are to take a covered dish and lawn chairs.

    Grace Abigail Dooly
    Matthew and Brittany Dooly of Smithboro are the parents of girl born at 10:46 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 20 inches long. She was named Grace Abigail.
    Grandparents are Jane and Terry Hiller of Hillsboro, and Thomas and Linda Dooly of rural Mulberry Grove.
    Great-grandparents are Russell and Audrey Hiller of Hillsboro,  and Marvin and Peggy Yordy of Eureka.

  • Frailey-Stanek Wedding

    Sara Frailey and Justin Stanek, both of Normal, were united in marriage on Friday, June 25, at Mackinaw Valley Vineyard, Mackinaw, with the Rev. Jennie Edwards-Bertrand officiating the 4:30 p.m. ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Richard and Debby Frailey of Altamont, formerly of Vandalia.
    The bride chose her sister, Emily Hummel of Chatham, as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jill Peyton of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Zoe Taylor of Boston, Mass.

    Alan and Teresa Edwards of Salem are the parents of a boy born at 2:06 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 22 inches long. He was named Joseph Alan.
    He has one sister, 2-year-old Zoey Cameron.
    Grandparents are Bill and Cheryl Edwards of Patoka, and the late Nila Cameron.
    Great-grandparents are Danny and Barbra Oberlink of Vandalia and Bill and the late Wilma Edwards of Patoka.

  • Jahraus — Brasel

    Micah Jahraus and Klayton Brasel of Vandalia were united in marriage on May 27, 2010, in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico, at the Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort.
    The bride is the daughter of Larry and Cheryl Jahraus of Vandalia.
    The couple was married in a beautiful wedding gazebo over-looking the Caribbean Sea. The white guests chairs were adorned with purple sashes and tropical flowers hung throughout.
    The bride’s father, Larry Jahraus, walked her down the beach and over the bridge leading to the gazebo.
