  • Austin – 50 Years

    Steve and Gloria Austin of St. Elmo will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Elmo Christian Church.

  • Crawford – 40 Years

    Steve and Donna Crawford of South Carolina, and formerly of Vandalia, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30.
    Steve and the former Donna Smith were married on Jan. 30, 1971, at the former Second Baptist Church in Vandalia.
    They lived in Vandalia for 17 years,  moved to Florida and then on to South Carolina in 1991.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Stacey and her husband Brian Hoff, and Kristin and her husband Todd Karraker.
    They have six grandchildren: Shayla, Joshua, Alex, Austin, Seth and Alexis.

  • Durbin – 72nd Anniversary

    Clifford and Daisy Durbin of St. Elmo celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
    Clifford and the former Daisy Hopper were married on Feb. 2, 1939, at the Fayette County Courthouse, with Judge Charlie Myers officiating, this being the first wedding that Judge Myers had preformed. Their attendants were Adele Kelly and Mary C. Grey.  
    After being married, the Durbins settled in rural St. Elmo. Cliff drove the school bus for 26 years and farmed, and Daisy was a homemaker.  

  • Celebrates 93rd Birthday

    Elaine Bost Froehly (center), a longtime Vandalia resident now living in Houston, Texas, was in Vandalia to celebrate her 93rd birthday. While here, she shared a birthday lunch with two friends, Genevive Diveley (left) and Adelaide Kelly (right), at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care. All three were classmates at Vandalia High School.

    Doris Goatley
    Doris Goatley of Decatur, and formerly of Vandalia, will celebrate her 80th birthday with a family gathering on Jan. 29.

  • Evans – Portz

    Sara Evans and Travis Portz, both of Brownstown, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Olen and Deb Evans of rural Brownstown.
    She is a 2004 graduate of Brownstown High School and a 2006 graduate of Sparks College in Shelbyville. She is currently employed at Dr. Brian's Dossett's medical practice.
    The future groom is the son of David and Karen Portz of rural Brownstown.
    He is a 2008 graduate of Greenville College, and is currently employed at Windsor Elementary School.

    Blake Allan Miller


    J.J. and Amber Miller of Greenville are the parents of a boy born at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.
    He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 20 inches long. He was named Blake Allan.
    Grandparents are Steve and Nancy Jansen of Carlyle and John and Leila Miller of Vandalia.

  • Stine-Armstrong

    Pamela Stine and Ryan Armstrong of Champaign were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 2010, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, Ill., with Rev. John Bates officiating the double-ring ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Gordon and Denise Stine of St. Elmo. Grandparents are Stanley and Grace Stine of St. Elmo, and Pauline and the late Edward DeVantier of Altamont.
    The groom is the son of Robert and Rebecca Armstrong of Washington, Ill. Grandparents are Elmer and Dorothy Armstrong, and Gene and Shirley Hobbs, all of Washington, Ill.
