  • Three local Girl Scouts receive GS Silver Award

    Girl Scouts were shining stars during Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois’ (GSSI) All That Glitters Award ceremony on April 5 at the Hilton Garden Inn’s Regency Conference Center in O’Fallon.
    Each year, the banquet recognizes Girl Scouts from across Southern Illinois who achieve significant accomplishments in community service and leadership.

    Gunner Robert Miles
    Mark and Sheri Miles of Vandalia are the parents of a boy born at 10:53 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

    Gunner Robert weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 21 inches long.
    Grandparents are Alice Miles of Vandalia, and Gary and Jerri George of Centralia.

  • Ward is top cookie seller

    Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois (GSSI) has wrapped up the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program, and Riely Ward, a Girl Scout Junior from Vandalia, was the top cookie seller for the Fayette County area.
    “Our girls, their parents and our fantastic volunteers have put in a tremendous amount of hard work to ensure that our 2014 Girl Scout Cookie Program was a success,” said Villie M. Appoo, GSSI chief executive officer.  “I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their dedication and commitment to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.”

    An open house to celebrate the 103rd birthday of Helen Tompkins will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Pleasant Mound Community Center, located south of Mulberry Grove.
