  • Brande Dunn receives RN pin

    Brande L. Dunn of Vandalia was among the 16 students in Lewis and Clark Community College's Licensed Practical Nurse Bridge Program who were pinned as they graduated to become registered nurses.
    Dunn is a graduate of Vandalia Community High School, and completed prerequisite and licensed practical nurse courses through Kaskaskia College at both the Vandalia Campus and the main campus. She had been working as an LPN since 2006.
    She and her husband, Michael, have two sons: Joseph and Alexander.

  • Hebron – 50 Years

    Lawrence and Patsy Hebron of Farina will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. this Saturday at the Farina United Methodist Church in Farina.
    Lawrence Hebron and the former Patsy Wagoner were married on Jan. 8, 1961, at the Edgewood Methodist Church in Edgewood. Their attendants were Tom Hebron and Avanell Wagoner Schwengel.

  • Miller – 40 Years

    Eric and Sue Miller of Shobonier celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a surprise open house on Saturday, Dec. 18, hosted by their children at their home.
    Eric, the son of the late George and Marian Miller, and the former Sue Witbracht, daughter of Ivan and Jeanne Witbracht, were married on Dec. 23, 1970, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia. Their attendants were Barbara Clark McCart and Bill Metzger.
    He is part-owner of Miller Brothers Construction, and she is currently employed at the Fayette County Probation Department.

  • Engagement

    Kelli Brunk and Thomas Channing have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is a 2004 graduate of St. Anthony High School in Effingham and a 2008 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where she earned a bachelor’s degree in medical science.
    She is currently a fourth-year dental student at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton and will graduate in June 2011.

    Megan Herbord and Kirk Weddle were united in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in a 4 p.m. ceremony at Christ Tabernacle in Herrick, with the Rev. Thomas Suey officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Rick and Sheila Herbord of Ramsey. Grandparents are Jewell Manley and the late Ross Manley, and Harold and Marilyn Behnke and the late Phil Herbord.
    The groom is the son of Aurelia Weddle and the late Todd Weddle. Grandparents are Gene and Sue Weddle, the late Dorothy Weddle,  and Sharon Law and the late Dean Law.

    Nicole Blankenship and Matthew Elam were united in marriage at 4:30 p.m. on July 3, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Greenville, with the Rev. Darryl Bolen officiating the double-ring ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Dan and Nelda Blankenship of Mulberry Grove.
    The groom is the son of Ron and Sandy Elam of Smithboro.
    The bride wore an Alfred Angelo, off-the-shoulder, diamond white taffeta gown, with a chapel-length train, and carried a fresh floral bouquet designed by a family friend, Karan Belcher.

    Kaden Lane Schaefer
    Ryan and Jeanifer Schaefer of Beecher City are the parents of a boy born at 6:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
    He weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He was named Kaden Lane.
    Grandparents are Kenny and Kathy Bogart of Brownstown, and Evan Schaefer, and Matt and Amy Jones, all of Beecher City.

    Grace Lynn Cook
    Brian and Tina Cook of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 5:50 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
    She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 20 inches long. She was named Grace Lynn.
    She has one brother, 3-year-old Aaron.
    Grandparents are Dorothy Jones of Vandalia, Charles Jones of Nokomis and Deb Cook of Mulberry Grove.
    Great-grandparents are Lynn and Dorothy Paine.

  • Dugan – 50 Years

    David and Ruth Dugan of Mulberry Grove will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Mulberry Grove Community Building.
    David and the former Patrechia Ruth Hathaway were married on Dec. 24, 1960, at First Baptist Church in Vandalia by the Rev. Archie Brown. Their attendants were Lily Hathaway Reed and Edward G. Dugan.
    He was a dairy farmer for more than 40 years, and later worked as transportation director at Mulberry Grove Community Unit No. 1.

  • Barnes – Peddie

    Rachel Barnes and David Peddie have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Gary and Javonda Barnes of St. Louis. Grandparents are John and Dorothy Barnes of Patoka, and Jennie and the late Joe Harner of Brownstown.
    She received her undergraduate social science degree in 2007 from Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif. She is employed by Hope as an undergraduate admissions counselor, while completing requirements for a graduate degree in marriage and family therapy.
