    Ramsey native Shannon “Dewayne” White was promoted to major in the Army on Jan. 28
    The ceremony took place at West Point, N.Y., where White has served for the past three years as an assistant professor of Russian.

    Tanya DeSherlia and Mark Taylor, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.


    The future bride is the daughter of Robert and Joan Langley of Vandalia. She is currently employed as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital in the ER.
    The future groom is the son of Ed and Donna Taylor of Vandalia. He is currently employed as the director of operations at Octochem.
    The couple are planning a June 19, 2011, wedding.

    Rodes and Beverly Hood of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th  wedding anniversary on Friday, Feb. 25.
    Rodes and the former Beverly Brown were married on Feb. 25, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Mo.
    He is the son of the late C. Rodes and Maurine Hood of Bowling Green, Mo., and she is the daughter of the late William and Fay Brown of Whiteside, Mo.

  • Mayfield – 25 years

    Layne and Brenda Mayfield of Vandalia will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Monday, Feb. 28.
    Layne and the former Brenda Duckworth were married on Feb. 28, 1986, at United Methodist Church in Mulberry Grove.
    Their attendants were Vicky Huber, sister of the bride, and Kevin Griffin, friend of the groom.
    They are the parents of one son, Marion, who is currently stationed in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor Naval Base. Layne and Brenda visited him in December in honor of their anniversary.

    Danny and Linda Barker of Brownstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 5, with the renewal of vows at Kaskaskia Church, with the Rev. Kent “Peewee” Denton officiating the ceremony.
    Danny and the former Linda Jennings were married on Feb. 7, 1961, at the home of Dewey and Phebe Jennings.
    They are the parents of three sons: Doug and his wife Renee Barker, and Dwayne and his wife Tammy Barker, both of Brownstown, and Darrell and his wife Patti Barker of Hutto, Texas.
