    Shelley Snow of O’Fallon, Mo., and Tony Petre of Macon, Mo., were united in marriage on Saturday, June 29, at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Macon, Mo., with the Rev. Vie Comstock officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Don and Vicky Snow of Jacksonville, and the groom is the son of Jim Petre of Macon, Mo., and the late Jackie Petre.

  • Native of Vandalia has book published

    Vandalia native Janet Elliott has recently written and published her first children’s book.
    Elliott was born and reared in Vandalia, graduating from Vandalia Community High School in 1983.

    Sara Beth Meyer and Timothy Whitten, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    The future bride is the daughter of Paula and Walt Barenfanger, and Mike and Cheryle Meyer, all of Vandalia.
    She is employed as manager and bookkeeper at Kaskaskia Supply in Vandalia.
    The future groom is the son of Clayton and Bonnie Jean Whitten of Vandalia.
    He is employed as a carpenter for DOLJ Construction in Edwardsville.
    The couple are planning a Jan. 25 wedding.

    Jaqueline Paige Greenwood
    Jeffrey Allen and Jo Lynne Greenwood of Flora are the parents of a girl born at 1:19 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
    Jaqueline Paige weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21 inches long. She has a brother, Quenton Alexander, age 5.
    Grandparents are Tony and Mary Schwarm of Sullivan, Mo., and Larry and Sharon Greenwood of Flora.

  • Givens – Domenech

    Brittany Marie Givens and Lucas Edward Domenech, both of Orlando, Fla., have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.
    The future bride is the daughter of Dave and Audrey Givens of Vandalia, and the granddaughter of Tom and Mary Givens, and Hallie Strole and Beaulah Strole.
    She earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and marketing, and is employed as a senior financial analyst.
    The future groom is the son of Ed and Jeanie Domenech of Venedy, and the grandson of Lowell and Jane Wilson, and the late Mariano and Raquel Domenech.

    Brian and Amanda Walk of Vandalia and their daughters, Jordan (front) and Isabella, recently presented to Dr. David Gutmann, director of the Washington University NF Center, a check for $18,248.43.

    he donation represents the amount raised at the third annual Jordan fuNFest at Gatch Lake.

    Paul Fisher of Brownstown will celebrate his 80th birthday this Sunday.

    A surprise celebration is planned for 3:30 p.m. at The Hitchin’ Post on U.S. Route 40 in Brownstown.
    Friends and family members are invited to attend, and are asked to try to keep it as a surprise celebration.

    Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cantrell of Vandalia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Dec. 6.

  • McCarty-60 Years

    Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McCarty of Vandalia celebrated their 60th anniversary on May 24.

    Jimmy McCarty and Joann Tackett were married on May 24, 1953, at First Christian Church in Brownstown, with the Rev. Jack Busby officiating.
    Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Fogler.
    The McCartys are the parents of two children: Thomas L. McCarty and his wife Marcie; and Edwin A. McCarty and his wife Kathy.
    They have four grandchildren: Joshua McCarty, Kari McCarty, Megan McCarty and Dana McCarty.
