    Bob Dowell and the former Margie Niehaus were married on June 3, 1962, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.

    Jennifer and Ryan Schaefer of rural Beecher City are the parents of a boy born at 8:01 a.m. on March 20, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.


    He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He was named Kolton Lee. He has a brother, Kaden, age 16 months.
    Grandparents are Kenneth and Kathy Bogart of rural Brownstown, and Evan Schaefer, and Matt and Amy Jones of Beecher City.

    PFC Victoria Ragel
    Marine Corps Pfc. Victoria L. Ragel, daughter of Holly B. Norris of Vandalia, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C., designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
    Ragel and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m. by running three miles and performing calisthenics.
