  • Vandalia native Paul Stroble publishes two more books

    Vandalia native Paul Stroble recently published his 17th and 18th  books.
    “Walking with Jesus through the Old Testament” is published by Westminster John Knox Press in Louisville, Ky.
    Drawing on the New Testament story of the Walk to Emmaus, where Jesus explains the scriptures to two travelers, Stroble selects scriptures that Jesus might have explained to his companions on the road.

  • Camilla Diveley celebrates 100th birthday

    Camilla Diveley celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec. 13.

    A lifetime resident of Vandalia, she was born to Mr. and Mrs. John (Julia) Diveley on a farm in Sefton Township.
    She had four sisters: Genevieve, now 98; Vodithe (Reavis, deceased); and twin sisters Beatrice (Davis), now 92, and Bernice (Scraper, deceased).
    Camilla grew up on the farm with her sisters, and she attended a one-room school that housed eight grades.  She graduated from Vandalia High School, where she was a member of an award-winning debate team.

    Tyson and Lara Smith of Vandalia are the parents of girl adopted on Nov. 6, 2015.
    Iris Paige has a brother, Eli Smith, age 7.

    Grandparents are Cindy and Melvin Smith of Vandalia, and Dennie and Janet Barnick of St. Elmo.
    Great-grandparents are Darrel and Bonnie Sharp of Patoka.

    Aubrea Perry and Jonathon DeCloedt, both of Indianapolis, Ind., were married in an 11 a.m. ceremony on Oct. 19, 2015, in Brown County, Ind.

  • Hickerson – Rogers

    Abigail Christine Hickerson of Shobonier and Ronald Keith Rogers of Patoka were married on Sept. 12, 2015, in a 3:30 p.m. ceremony at Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Josh Frazee officiating.

    The bride, the daughter of Steve and Caryl Hickerson of Shobonier, was given in marriage by her father.
    Abby wore a strapless, A-line ivory gown with tulle inset, and crystal and beading accents along the neckline, bodice and corseted back. Her dress had a chapel-length train, and she wore a two-tier, elbow-length veil with a beaded edge.

    Stan and Nadine Johnson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this Wednesday.

  • Langley – 50 years

    Bob and Joan Langley of Vandalia celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 19.
    A family dinner celebration was held, and a trip through America by rail is planned for mid-August.

  • Miley – 60 years

    Emmet and Cora Miley of rural Beecher City will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 14.
