• Ritchey - 50 years

    Mr. and Mrs. Jesse “Jack” Ritchey of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 30.
    To honor the Ritcheys, their family members and friends will hold a potluck picnic at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the Lions Pavilion at the Vandalia Lake Marina.

  • Brannon is IDOC district Employee of the Year

    Brad Brannon, horticulture instructor at Vandalia Correctional Center, has been selected as “Employee of the Year” for the Central District of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Brannon was presented with his award in April at the Central District inservice held at Decatur Correctional Center.
    The announcement was made by IDOC Vocational Coordinator Kathleen Mattingly.
    “Brad has always demonstrated a daily positive demeanor with his students, fellow staff and administration, as well within the Vandalia community as well.

    The Rev. Peter and Kristie Kolb of Vandalia will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary next week.

    They were married on June 11, 1994, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst, Texas, and they are the parents of eight children.
    The Kolbs will celebrate their anniversary with their family.

  • Fiscus picked to attend Boys State

    Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia has chosen Ryan Fiscus, a junior at Vandalia Community High School, to attend Illinois’ annual Premier Boys State.

    Cory and Tasha Gillett of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 10:11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville.

    Haley Brooklyn weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19 ½ inches long.
    She has three sisters: Angela, age 9; Erica, age 7; and Makenzie, age 4; and a brother, Brayden, age 6.
    Grandparents are Steve Olmstead and Sherri Brazee of Vandalia, and Joann Jennings of Ashland.
    Great-grandparents are Clarabelle and the late Elvin Olmstead.

    Ward and Norma Sussenbach of Greenville will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2-4:30 p.m. on Sunday in the multipurpose room at Greenville Free Methodist Church.
