  • Pennington recognized at Girl Scout meeting

    Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois held its sixth annual meeting on April 5 at the Hilton Garden Inn in O’Fallon.
    During the meeting, approximately 300 Girl Scout members (adults and girls) from throughout Southern Illinois elected Board of Directors members and received a “State of the Council” report from Dixie Travelstead, GSSI Board of Director chair, and Villie M. Appoo, GSSI chief executive officer.

    Murl Williams of Collegedale, Tenn., formerly of the St. Elmo-Brownstown area, celebrated his 95th birthday this Wednesday.

  • Ryan hired at NY university

    Dr. Ryan M. Jones has accepted a teaching position at State University of New York in Geneseo.

    Jones is teaching Latin American history and is part of a cluster interdisciplinary hiring initiative that includes faculty members intent on working together across departments for research projects and teaching.
    Jones is the son of Janice and Jerry Jones of Ramsey, and the grandson of Virda Forbus and Shirley Jones of Vandalia.

    Mikayla Roach and Andrew Jordan Gaylord of Troy are the parents of a girl born at 7:08 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2014, at a St. Louis, Mo., hospital.

    Kristina Marie Stunkel and Trevor Scott Summers, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and formerly of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    The family of Leila Dippold will host an open house on Saturday, Jan. 17, in honor of her 80th birthday.

    The open house will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the gym at Salem Lutheran Church, 1401 Hawthorn Road, Salem.
