Milestones

  • Runkel – 50 years

    Carl and Edith Runkel of Vandalia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, on July 19, with a private family celebration.

    The Runkels were married on July 19, 1964, at the Christian Church in Tower Hill.
    The couple has three children: Carla Vasquez, Steven Runkel and his wife Kena, and Shawn Runkel and his wife Naomi, all of Vandalia. They have nine grandchildren – Rob Fox of Vandalia; Samantha Fox of Arvada, Colo.; and Christopher, Levi, Megan, C.J., A.J., Terry and Macie, all of Vandalia – and three great-grandchildren.

    A Vandalia resident who has been in Scouting since first grade chose to help his church for his Eagle Scout project.

    Jessica Ann West of Dawson and Donald Eugene Thierry of Vandalia were married in a 4 p.m. ceremony on May 17, 2014, at Fillmore Lake in Fillmore, with Dave Atchison.

    Dawson Duane & Cade Ryan Willms
    Trevor and Megan Willms of rural Brownstown are the parents of twin boys born at 10 and 10:01 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

  • Graumenz – 60 years

    Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Graumenz of St. Peter will observe their 60th wedding anniversary this Friday.

  • Neller-Brown

    Danielle Neller and Ian Brown, both of Pontoon Beach, have announced their engagement and upcoming marriage.

  • Maske now an Eagle Scout

    It took eight years, but Jarod Maske of Boy Scout Troop 121, chartered to Lincoln Trails Council of the Two Rivers District, reached a lifetime goal by earning his Eagle Scout badge.

    The final step in the process was his Eagle project, refurbishing the bell tower for Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
    The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting, but also for the young man as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service.

  • Birthday

    Delila Beckman
    A party to celebrate Delila Beckman’s 80th birthday will be held on Saturday, July 19, at the Vandalia Eagles Club, 112 N. Sixth St., Vandalia.

    The celebration will include a meet and greet from 4-5 p.m.; food and refreshments from 5-6 p.m.; cake and punch from 6-7 p.m.; and music by “Heartland Express.”
    The public is invited to attend. No gifts, please.
