    Critter Corner …
    … can be more aptly called “Twitter Corner” this week. Spring is here, at least it is for the little wild birds, as they are filling the trees and the air with their songs the past few mornings.
    Their songs are really encouraging me to take my morning coffee outside in the sunshine (note the word sunshine), and just enjoy the morning sunrise. The birdfeeder is not being emptied so much now, since the snow has melted, so nature is taking over and providing nourishment.

    Too Cold for Petite
    Puppy Paws
    Poor little Josie, our almost 14-year-old puppy – when she goes outside, her little feet get so cold so quickly, that she can hardly move. We pick her up and carry her up and down the steps, but she gets cold as soon as she stands down on the frozen ground.

    Birth
    Scott and Shelly Reynolds are the parents of a daughter, Lillian Faith, born on Feb. 13, 2014. She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 19 ½ inches long.
    She is welcomed by her brother, Andrew.
    Grandparents are Paul and Beth Reynolds, and Russ and Bev Schwarm.

    Mayor Rick Gottman signed a proclamation declaring March 9-15 as Girl Scout Week in Vandalia.

    The proclamation acknowledges that Girl Scouts helps to instill in girls courage, character and confidence. Gottman is shown with members of Daisy Troop No. 8392, Junior Troop No. 8858 and Cadette Troop No. 8382. Troop leaders are: Therese Tate, Daisies; Jamie Keck, Juniors; and Teresa Powell, Cadettes.

    During last week’s storm, the rain and hail seemed to be coming down in sheets and was moving horizontally, rather than vertically, and was scaring Betsy Longhorn and her bovine family.

    Word was received of the death of Lucille Scheer, a former resident of  St. Peter.  Funeral arrangements are pending.
     Baptism
    Julia Wren Taylor, daughter of Shane and Kelly Taylor of Shobonier, was baptized on Sunday  at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Godparents are Bret and Natalie Meyer.
    Card Shower
