    Special Day Brings Back Special Memories
    Mother’s Day – Does growing up with this special day tend to cause us to take it for granted?

    Visit Family in Michigan
    Larry and Sue Urban of St. Peter traveled to Reed City, Mich., for a visit with daughter and son-in-law, Keri and Tom Latin, and attended the Operetta of Emma & Elijah Latin on Friday, April 29. The Operetta was entitled, “A Man Named Noah.”
    The twins were decked out in penguin costumes, handmade by their adopted Michigan grandmas. An enjoyable and relaxing time was spent with the Latins on Saturday enjoying the great Michigan outdoors.

    Weekend visitors of Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter were Mahala Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Nathan Jacquin of Washington, Mo., Ben, Amanda, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., and Rollie and Trieva Henson of St. Peter.
    Easter Dinner
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter took their mothers, Mary Harpster and Helen Limes, to the Leaky Bucket on Sunday for Easter dinner.
    They drove around the state park and enjoyed seeing deer, wild turkeys and squirrels.

    • The annual Fayette County School Children Art Show will be held April 21-25. It is sponsored by Artworks Gallery and will be held in the exhibit area above the Fayette County Museum at 301 W. Main St., Vandalia. Hours are 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. on most Sundays.

  • Woman's Club hears about recycling

    Vandalia Women’s Club recently enjoyed an informational presentation on recycling by Kim Taylor of FAYCO Enterprises.
    In addition to tips on recycling, Taylor described the different materials accepted at FAYCO Recycling on Sunset Drive in Vandalia.
    GFWC Illinois Woman’s Clubs are focusing on recycling in their Conservation Community Service Program, which is one of seven major areas through which woman’s club serves the community.
    The local club meets on the second Monday of the month. All women are welcome.

  • New SAFE volunteers

    Pictured above are four newly trained SAFE (Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies) volunteers.

    From left to right are: Pattie Williams, Amber Marvin, Amy Nosbisch and Shirley Bartels. At least once a year, SAFE offers a 40-hour crisis intervention training.  These new volunteers will offer direct service to victims of sexual assault and their families. For more information about becoming a volunteer with SAFE, call 283-1414.
