    • Reservations for the annual Alumni Banquet are to be made by this Thursday. Tickets for the banquet, set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, in the high school gym, cost $12 per person.

    An open house for Matthew Dillon Connell will be held from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday at the home of Dr. Don and Phyllis Rames, 620 N. Seventh St., Vandalia. Connell will be leaving for Navy basic training.

  • Former telephone employees gather

    There were a lot of stories shared at the Ponderosa Steakhouse at noon on Monday, May 2, when former telephone operators, linemen and guests who worked for Illinois Bell attended their fourth annual luncheon.
    After the meal, everyone introduced themselves and told when and where they worked.
    Gloria Ledbetter read some humorous quotes.
    Donna Chrisman read a poem that was written by Mary Dewald.
    In the poem, Dewald recalls her days as an operator and later as a commercial employee. She had been with Illinois Bell for 25 years.

    Belinda Harpster and Sue Urban of St. Peter and Andria Urban of Centralia attended the Jimmy Buffett concert in St. Charles, Mo., on Tuesday night.  On Wednesday, they visited The Hill in St. Louis and enjoyed Italian food and shopping.

    Larry and Sue Urban of St. Peter attended church at St. Peter’s Lutheran and then enjoyed a Mother’s Day dinner at the home of John and Connie Cavaletto of Salem, where they were joined by daughter, Andria.

    • Kid’s Klub Fun Fair, 6-8 p.m. in the First Church of God S.H.E.D. for games, inflatables, crafts and food. This will be the last Kid’s Klub activity until school starts this fall. Kids third grade and under must be accompanied by an adult (high school or older). Vans will not run.
