  • OASIS meeting held on Feb. 13

     The OASIS (Older Adults Sharing In Service) were overwhelmed when they entered the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church on Monday, Feb. 13. Red and white placemats, Valentine napkins, centerpieces of red hearts, cupids and red bowls holding votive candles created an atmosphere that was romantic and whimsical.
    Some of Charlie and Linda Townsend’s collection of antique Valentines were on display at a designated table. The refreshment table was abundantly loaded with special treats.

    Smoky, the (adorable) Little Donkey …
    … is getting an early start on his summer tan. He likes to lie behind his barn in the sunshine and has been taking advantage of the recent blessings of the sun’s warm rays. Of course, his “tan” is always a smoky gray, summer or winter.
    Callie, the kitty, also likes to lie in the sun, but she prefers the back deck, close to the patio door. Like Smoky, if it starts to sprinkle, she wants inside under a dry roof.

    Madison and Dru Eller spent the weekend with their grandparents, Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.
    Death
    Our community was saddened by the death of lifelong resident Glenn Bergmann on Friday of last week.
    Baptism
    Claire Anna Chasteen, daughter of Jeremy and Danielle (Drewes) Chasteen of Kinmundy, was baptized in the Sunday morning service.
    Her sponsors were Mallory and Reid Drewes, Matthew Chasteen and Stephanie Kelsheimer.
    St. Peter Church
    Saturday evening worship attendance was 165.

  • Evans Library now offering Consumer Reports Online

    Evans Public Library in Vandalia has expanded its services to include the Consumer Reports Online, in addition to its existing magazine subscription.
    Consumer Reports Online is available to anytime, anywhere by visiting www.epl.lib.il.us. Patrons wanting to use the service can obtain their user ID and password by calling the library, 283-2824.
    Users may use Consumer Reports Online to browse the website to help make smarter buying decisions.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia for lunch and a meeting, with 24 members and two guests present.
    The pledge to the flag was given and followed with Vera Miller giving the meal prayer.
    After the meal, the meeting was opened, with the secretary and treasurer report given and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries were read for January.
    A card was signed for members Charles and Doris Duncan, who live in Texas and just celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

    Congratulations
    Congratulations to Brett Harmeier for being named to an area all-star basketball team.
    His team will be playing a team made up of players from the Oil Belt Conference at Odin Jr./Sr. High School on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
    The area all-stars are made up of players from surrounding schools that are not part of the Oil Belt Conference. Brett is the son of Dan and Kari Harmeier of St. Peter and a student at St. Peter Lutheran School.
