    Christmas Guests
    Christmas Day dinner guests of Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter were: Renee Key of Edgewood; Helen Limes of St. Peter; Dale, Lori and Shooter McKinney of Farina; Dustin Higgs of Mason; and Mahala and Nathan Jacquin of Villa Ridge, Mo.
    Evening guests were: Mitch, Gretchen and Owen Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Ben, Amanda, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo.; Nathan and Mahala Jacquin of Villa Ridge, Mo.; and Rollie and Trieva Henson of St. Peter.

    From the Chicken Roost
    Rhonda and Blackie (Hens) now have a sunroom in their new, split-level domicile, their manufactured chicken house from Rural King, complete with an entry/exit  ramp, separate add-on nest area with a hinged roof for easy cleaning and egg-gathering (especially appreciated for the human inhabitants of the Homestead), a little door with a tiny window to their roosting area (which is in the upper split-level) and a wire fence around their “bugging area” to enjoy this spring.

    Weekend Visitors
    Ben, Amanda, Madison, and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., spent the afternoon with Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.
    They all visited Mary Harpster at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, and returned to Harpsters’ for dinner.
    Children’s Program
    Two hundred and 10 people attended the children’s Christmas program at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Sunday evening.

    • The Assembly of God Church 6 p.m. worship will have a musical program presented by Peggy Cox, Richard Tucker and Tucker’s sister, Linda Miodunski. There will be some congregational Christmas songs. Everyone is welcome to attend. Cox, Tucker and Miodunski minister to seniors at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont the second Sunday mornings.

  • Applications taken for Head Start

    C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is a federally-funded program that provides comprehensive classroom and home base educational services to pregnant women and children ages 0-5, including those with significant or multiple special needs.
    The C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is located at 1902 Progress West in Vandalia, with preschool center-base classes are provided in either the morning or afternoon, Monday through Thursday.

    Homestead Critters Coping Well with Snow & Cold …
    … probably better than their caregiver, Bill. He faithfully tends to them, making sure that have plenty to eat (we think they need more for energy and warmth in this weather) and plenty to drink (they are all drinking a lot of water, which is always available, but Bill has to break the ice on some of it sometimes). The horses, Sugarfoot and Lady, have a new heater in their water tank this year.

    Doris Mercier, 86, of St. Peter, died on Sunday.
    Children’s Christmas Service
    The Children’s Christmas service, presented by the students of St. Peter’s Lutheran School and Preschool, will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m.
    Christmas Eve Service
    The Christmas Eve candlelight service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will be held at 6:30 p.m.
    St. Peter Church
    Attendance on Sunday was 154. Ellijah Bahde served as acolyte.
    The organist was the Rev. Alan Holtz.
