Betsy Longhorn Feeling Under the Weather
Betsy Longhorn is a long-time member, actually the senior member, of the Homestead Critters. She has been with us for 21 years and is at least 22 years old (but doesn’t look a day over 15).
She has always been shorter in stature than the full-blooded longhorns, because she is part corriante. We had been approached several times over the years by ropers who wanted to buy her for practice. We were told her breed is good for roping.

    “Ice-Breaker” on the Homestead …
… is the ax or sledgehammer; not conversational words at a social/party gathering to “break the ice,” but a healthy swing with said tools to break the ice in the  critters’ “watering holes” (translation-water tanks, buckets, pans, birdbaths).
As we have several such items and some farther away from the house, it has not seemed feasible to try to run electric cords to the assorted containers.

    Signs of Spring … Already?!
Yes! First reported Monday morning on Panzi’s Partyline show by our river-bottom reporter, DeeDee Diveley, then a confirmation of the phenomenon when Danny Donaldson mentioned (during an unrelated passing conversation later the same day) that he had seen already seen dandelions blooming.
DeeDee was taking the dogs for a walk when she saw  dandelions, and also said that she saw a small tree along the roadside with pink blooms on it.
