Betsy LongHorn & Cattle Family Doing Well …
… in spite of the lack of rain and resulting condition of their Homestead pasture.
The rain we were blessed with last week helped put a little more green in it, but it still looks parched.
However, the Longhorns, unlike some of the other breeds, actually like the prickly weeds and dried stuff that most other cattle don’t eat.
But, we didn’t want them to be hungry, so we visited Preacher Pete and brought a load of nice hay back to them.

The Critter Corner Waterin’ Hole is Dry …
… and the pasture grass is various shades of greenish-yellow and brown.
We are keeping water available for all the critters all the time, and we even try to keep shallow containers of water out for the tiny creatures, such as little frogs, insects, and bugs, such as lightning bugs and butterflies.
The longhorn cattle family takes all weather in stride, and can be seen on really hot days lying right out in the sun instead of taking advantage of the shade trees.

    In Response to Inquiries
The Homestead Critters are tolerating the heat and dry weather. Several have asked about the critters, since it has been so hot. Papa Bear Bill has been keeping them supplied with fresh water, and they all have shade and/or shelter.
    •  Betsy LongHorn, the Bartels girl (namely Geneva), and the three youngsters, surprise us, as they do not take advantage of their shade trees.
They seem to like to lie in the sunshine, even in the 100-plus degree weather.
