  • Reunions

    The annual Sefton reunion will be held at noon on Saturday at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown. Chicken, dinnerware and drinks will be provided.

    The annual Dothager reunion will be held on Sunday at the Pleasant Mound Community Center. A potluck dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m.

    The annual Finley family reunion will be held on Sunday at Ponderosa Steak House in Vandalia, beginning at 1 p.m.

  • Golden Circle Menus

    Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses.
    There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit.
    Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.
    Call the site director, Sharon Harris, at 283-1040 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. the day before you wish to eat there.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on July 30 in Litchfield at Maverick Restaurant, with 24 members and three guests present.
    President Dean Black welcomed everyone, followed by the pledge to the flag. David Poe gave the blessing for the meal.
    After the meal, Black called the meeting to order.
    The secretary and treasurer report were read and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries for July were read.
    Laura Mulhern had completed a brochure that included everything about the club, and each couple or member was given one.

    Prairie Days Floats
    In commemoration of its 40th Anniversary, the Prairie Days Committee invites area businesses, civic organizations, and area churches to consider building floats for the Prairie Days parade this year.
    St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
    Worship attendance on Sunday morning was 140.
    The organist was Jamie Lotz.
    Ellijah Bahde served as acolyte.
    Attending elders were Allen Magnus and Mark Wollin.

    Critters Tolerating Heat Wave Well
    It is kind of interesting that the critters have only two changes of apparel a year – one for winter and one for summer. Yet they seem to take what comes (weatherwise) without complaint, as long as we humans make things as comfortable for them as reasonably possible.

    Mother/Daughter/Granddaughter Weekend
    Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent Thursday night at the home of her daughter, Mahala Jacquin of Villa Ridge, Mo.
    She babysat Harper on Friday. On Friday evening, Amanda and Madison Eller of Jackson, Mo., met them, and they traveled to St. Charles, Mo.
    On Saturday, they took the ferry to Grafton. They enjoyed the flea market, wineries and other shopping. They all returned home on Sunday.
    Floyd Bolyard of St. Peter died on Friday. The funeral was held on Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter.

  • BHS Reunion is This Weekend

    The Brownstown High School class of 1955 will hold its 60-year runion this Saturday at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, in conjunction with the Brownstown Alumni Reunion.

    The meet and greet begins at 4 p.m. Those planning to attend, as pictured at an earlier reunion, include Yvonne Patterson Watkins of Peoria, Ariz.; Virginia Hancock Davis of Washington, Mo.; and Ivalee "Ivy" Stine Herrin of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ft. Worth, Texas.

    The 77th annual Elam family reunion will be held at noon on Aug. 2 at the Mulberry Grove Community Building.
    A potluck dinner will be held at noon. Those attending are asked to take a covered dish and their own table service.

    Weekend Visitors
    Mahala and Harper Jacquin spent Thursday through Sunday with Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.
    On Saturday, they all traveled to Arthur to the Amish store, and then to Rockome Gardens, only to find it has been closed; however, they still managed to take Harper on a buggy ride.
    After shopping in Tuscola, they finished the evening by dining at Fujiama in Effingham.
    Visitors of Dane and Belinda Harpster on Friday were Amy Reiss, Rollie and Trieva Henson, Stacey and Seth Bergmann, and Liz Carson.
