    Visits Daughter
    Belinda Harpster of St. Peter spent Thursday through Sunday with Nathan, Mahala and Harper Jacquin of Villa Ridge, Mo. Belinda and Mahala held a rummage sale on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday evening, Belinda, Mahala and Harper went to Kimmswick to dine at Blue Owl Café and participate in the “Witches Night Out” event.
    Deaths
    Clarence Wodtka, a lifelong resident of St. Peter, died on Monday of last week. His funeral was held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Friday.

    Critters Having Company
    The past few days, two of the “neighbor kids” from the longhorn pasture across the way have been visiting the Homestead bunch and enjoying nibbling on the green grass.  
    The other barnyard critters, Madricka, and her baby burro, Buckwheat, and  Lady, the pretty senior mini-horse, watch the strangers, but they do not let the visitors interrupt their meals or their naps in the sunshine.  

  • Golden Circle Menus

      Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses. There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit. Meals are prepared by Deb's Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.

    St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
    Worship attendance on Sunday morning was 132.
    The organist was Jamie Lotz. Mitchell Brauer served as acolyte. Attending elders were Jay Rothe and Curtis Jenne.
    A guest speaker was Pastor Jaya Bijjiga, a native of southern India. He has served as a missionary to Indian immigrants in Chicago, Texas, Missouri and other places. Currently, he continues his work as a missionary-at-large.

  • LIHEAP application period begins soon

    The C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corp. will begin the 2016 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program on Thursday Oct. 1. That is the first day that appointments can be made for the program.
    October and November are priority months reserved for those households that have either a member aged 60 and above or disabled. Appointments can be made by contacting the local C.E.F.S. County Outreach offices.  
    Starting on Nov. 2, applications will also be accepted from households that at the time of application have a child under age 6; proof of age will be required.

    Critters Enjoying Cooler Weather
    Baby Bucky Burro, for one, has been kicking up his heels, running to get to the carrots before “Mom” and just seems to be generally enjoying life.
    They have been enjoying just lying and napping in the warm sunshine, but they come to their gate to watch us drive in now, and are being more attentive when anything is going on.

    Lutheran Care Center Hosts Family Day
    Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter attended Family Day at Lutheran Care Center on Sunday. There was a band, food stand, bake sale, popcorn ice cream and lots of entertainment. They had a bounce house and horse rides for the kids.  Belinda even decided to take a ride on the horse. Gert Garrett helped the band sing “You are My Sunshine.”
    Several familiar faces were there from St. Peter.
