Young author has book published about her dogs

When Caitlyn Campbell was a small child, she hated dogs. They scared her.

But when her grandparents, Wynn and Sarah Provines, bought a pug puppy, it changed everything. Not only did she overcome her fear of dogs, but she and Charlie the pug became inseparable. They did everything together. And she took countless pictures of her four-legged playmate.

Then – tragically – Charlie was hit by a car and died.

The heartache that resulted from that loss drove Campbell to write about her dog. And recently, those writings and some of her pictures of him were published in a small book called “Caitlyn and her Four-Legged Friends.”

The 32-page book isn’t just a tribute to Charlie, however. It also introduces Max – another pug that the Provines bought after Charlie died.

“I like writing and taking pictures, so I decided to write a book,” said Campbell, 14, a freshman at Vandalia Community High School. “I wrote it about our dogs, because I wanted it to be an inspiration to others.”

She had a small printing done for family and friends, and Campbell recently donated a copy of the book to Evans Public Library.

The rural Hagarstown resident is now working on a second book – this one a love story.

In addition to the Provines, Caitlyn’s other grandparents are John and Shirley Campbell. Her parents are John and Whitney Campbell.
