YMCA hosting local level of Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition

The Fayette County Family YMCA will be hosting a local level of Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit and Run competition for children from ages of 7 to 14.

There is no charge to participate, but all children must bring a copy of their birth certificate and sign a waiver/registration form prior to the event.

It will be hosted at the Vandalia High School baseball and softball fields on May 5, with registration opening at 3:30 p.m. and competition beginning at 4 p.m.

Age groups for the event are: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14-year-olds.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with an all-around champion will advance to the sectional level of competition.

There are two additional levels of competition, including team championships at Major League ballparks and national finals at the Major League baseball All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

KC sports camps to be held at YMCA

The Fayette County Family YMCA will be hosting several sports camps in conjunction with Kaskaskia College coaches and players this June and July.

Youth entering the grades K-8 may register for any of the camps, including an entire week or single sessions.

From June 18-22, camps in boys basketball, baseball and soccer will be offered. The deadline to register is June 4.

From June 25-29, camps in girls softball and volleyball will be offered. The deadline to register is June 11.

From July 9-13, camps in girls soccer and basketball will be offered. The deadline to register is June 25.
