Another detail was added to the YMCA's new complex in the past few weeks – hardwood basketball floors in the gymnasium.

The floors have been installed and lined for three basketball courts and three volleyball courts. It needs only be covered with three coats of sealant, and it will be complete.

Prior to the floors being installed, six basketball goals where hung. The four side goals can be lowered to 8 feet to accommodate younger players, while the two main goals are at a fixed height of 10 feet. All six goals can be folded up toward the ceiling or compressed against the wall.

YMCA director John Ashdown said the new gym will allow the YMCA's youth basketball leagues to have more practice time, and he hopes the new facilities will bring more players into the leagues.

The Astroturf for the batting cage should arrive and be laid down next week. The pitching machine in the batting cage can accommodate both softball and baseball.

Tile flooring has begun in the rest room and locker room areas, and counter tops have been installed.

Drywall throughout is complete, and the final electrical wires are being run.

About two dozen workers were at the site Tuesday morning.

The storage facility to the south of the main building is complete.

The land to the north of the building has been leveled, and Ashdown envisions building a baseball field there in the future.

Construction is still on schedule to be completed in time for a grand opening the weekend of July 24.
