SALEM - The game lasted 11 innings and didn't end until shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday night, but it was worth the wait for the Vandalia Jr. Legion team.

Post 95 scored twice in the top of the 11th to break a 3-3 tie and fended off a bases-loaded threat from South Central in the bottom half to pull off an upset win, 5-4, and secure a spot in the championship game of the winner's bracket at the District Tournament.

Sixth-seeded Vandalia will play No. 1 Teutopolis on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Salem. Second-seeded South Central was relegated to the loser's bracket and will begin its quest back through that bracket on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against No. 4 Altamont.

If South Central beats Altamont and wins the following game, it would again play Vandalia if Post 95 loses to T-Town.

A full report on this game will appear in the July 21 edition of The Leader-Union.
