Water Tower Rescue

Vandalia Police Department Sgt. Jeff Ray scales to the top of the city's water tower atop Thrill Hill last Tuesday to check on an employee of Hurst-Roche Engineers who encountered medical problems while inspecting the tower and was unable to climb down the tower ladder.

Firefighters from the Charleston and Mattoon fire departments who are trained in specialty rescue were called to get the H-R employee off of the tower. Those firefighters are part of the MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Division 26 rescue team. Both the city police department and fire department, as well as the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene.
