BRIDGEPORT – Patoka's historic boys basketball season came to a close on Wednesday night in the sectional semifinals.
Playing at the Red Hill Sectional, the Warriors were done in by the size and hot shooting of Dieterich in a 61-39 loss.
Patoka hadn't played a sectional game since 1989 and had defeated the Movin' Maroons by nine during the regular season, but was unable to answer any of Dieterich's three scoring runs on Wednesday and failed to generate much offense in the first half.
Freshman Jered Cain had a double-double, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, though just three of his points came in the first half as Dieterich's defense swarmed around him. Senior Johnnie Clift had 14 points, but was limited to just free throws in the second half after scoring 11 in the first two quarters.
The Warriors finish the season with a 23-7 record, and the loss closed the careers of eight close-knit seniors.
