Wal-Mart officials notified the city of Vandalia that is not interested in a liquor license at this time.
In a letter sent to Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman on Friday by e-mail and FedEx, Harlan C. Powell of Webster and Powell, a Chicago law firm representing Wal-Mart, said, "It has come to our attention that while our customers overwhelmingly support the inclusion of packaged liquor goods among the many products offered by Wal-Mart, there may not be sufficient public support at this time to facilitate the approval of Wal-Mart's request.
