W-M seeks liquor license; new lake manager hired

Mayor Rick Gottman told the Vandalia City Council on Monday that Wal-Mart has formally requested a package liquor license.

The council will discuss that request at its June 15 meeting. By statute, the council sets the number of liquor licenses, and it’s up to the mayor, as the city’s liquor commissioner whether a license petition is OK’d.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the council approved the hiring of Rob Schukar as the new Vandalia Lake manager. Schukar succeeds Chuck Ruot, who is retiring after 23 years.

The council also approved new contracts for City Administrator Jimmy Morani, Code Official Keith Meadows, Police Chief Larry Eason, Director of Public Works John Moyer, Assistant Director of Public Works Tom Henrichsmeyer, Water Plant Superintendent Martin Huskey, Sewer Plant Superintendent Mark Augenstein and Cemetery Sexton David Wodtka, and approved a two-week extension on the current contract of Director of Economic Development and Tourism JoAnn Givens.
