VVFD Uses Donations

Three members of the Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department are shown with materials and equipment that have been purchased with donations from the community during fundraising efforts held in conjunction with the annual Fireman's Ball. From left to right are Tom DePaolo, Jason Paslay and Mark Meadows. DePaolo is holding a chainsaw that has a special carbide chain for firefighting tasks, and Meadows is holding a thermal imaging camera that the department uses to search for both individuals trapped in a building and for fire hidden from view. The three are shown in front of a training maze that members built using materials purchased with donations. The maze, located in the basement of the Public Safety Building, allows members to practice crawling over and around obstacles, as well as pulling unconscious individuals to safety, in the dark. The VVFD is currently selling tickets for this year's Fireman's Ball, which will be held on New Year's Eve at the American Legion Home in Vandalia.
