Police seek help in solving case

Press Release from Vandalia Police Department, 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13:

The Arson Investigator from the Office of the State Fire Marshal has ruled the fire that occurred on Saturday at High School Apartments to be arson.

We are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for setting the fire.  We are offering a $2,500 cash reward for specific information leading to the arrest for the person or persons responsible for the fire.

The case is still under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Vandalia Police Department and the Fayette County Coroner.

A resident of the apartment complex who died in the fire was identified on Monday by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen as Jerry Voris, 63.
