The Fayette County Probation Department is searching for youth volunteers as they begin implementing a Youth Court program.
Youth Court is an alternative approach that holds first-time juvenile offenders accountable through a sentence imposed by their peers.
The department is currently seeking youth volunteers between the ages of 14-17 who will play the roles of the prosecuting and defense attorneys, clerk, bailiff and jury.
Volunteers will be required to attend a training session prior to participating in Youth Court and will be asked to participate in at least one Youth Court session each month.
The initial training and orientation for youth volunteers is scheduled for 6 pm. on Monday, Aug. 26, at the Fayette County Courthouse.
Volunteer applications are available at the Probation Department. Anyone interested in becoming a youth volunteer is encouraged to stop by or call the Probation Department at 283-5015 and speak with Dallas Gray.
