VJHS wins 29th annual Vandalia Eighth-Grade Tournament

Vandalia’s Mitchell Casey and Markus Isaiah combined for 27 points to lead the host team to the championship of the 29th Vandalia Eighth-Grade Tournament last Thursday.

Isaiah was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Casey and Drew Thompson also were named to the all-tournament team, along with Matthew Lamb of Pana and Brennen Simmons of Central A&M.
The VJHS squad captured the tournament title by beating A&M in the title game, 57-37.
The Vandals scored 13 points while holding A&M to just four in the opening quarter, and led 32-15 at the half.
They outscored A&M 15-8 in the third quarter to take a 47-23 lead into the final quarter and coasted to the win.
Vandalia – Casey 4 6-6 – 15, Tarkington 2 2-2 – 7, Goldsmith 1 3-4 – 5, Miller 1 0-0 – 2, Thompson 3 3-6 – 9; Isaiah 6 0-2 – 12, Marquardt 1 1-2 – 3, Beall 1 0-0 – 2.
 

The Vandalia Junior High School squad won the 29th Vandalia Eighth-Grade Tournament last week at VJHS.
