WOOD RIVER – The Vandalia boys basketball season came to a close on Wednesday night with a 62-42 loss to Roxana at the Wood River Regional.

The first four minutes of the game saw a steady pace and back-and-forth scoring leave Vandalia behind by just two, but from there, Roxana took control with several 3-pointers.

Three of those long-range shots came in the last two minutes of the first half, as the Shells amassed a 13-0 run to take a 20-point halftime lead.

That lead would stay steady in the second half, ending Vandalia's season at 8-20.

Junior Collin Nestleroad led the Vandals with 15 points, and senior Colton Woolsey closed his career with 12 points and seven rebounds.

At the Mulberry Grove Regional, Patoka was a 65-51 winner against Mulberry Grove to advance to the regional championship game. The Warriors have not won a regional title since 1989.

Tyler Back and Johnnie Clift had 15 points for the Warriors, and Mulberry Grove was led by 15 from Jack Criner and 14 from Ty James.

Patoka plays on Friday at 7 p.m. against either Odin or Christ Our Rock Lutheran at Mulberry Grove High School.
