No area baseball team has a No. 1 seed in its regional tournament, but there will be three teams fighting to make the title game in one tournament and Vandalia will have a first-round home game.

Vandalia Regional

The Vandals will host the play-in game next Monday after earning the No. 4 seed over fifth-seeded Pana. Vandalia swept the season series, with 1-0 and 6-2 victories.

Pana’s hitters struck out a combined 21 times in 15 innings in those games, and junior Collin Nestleroad is 5-for-8 against the Panthers this season.

Other teams at the Vandalia Regional are: (1) St. Anthony, (2) Shelbyville and (3) Flora.

Altamont Regional

No. 4 Brownstown/St. Elmo senior Jacob Behrends has had plenty of success against Patoka recently, and if he gets the call in Monday’s play-in game in the Altamont Regional, it could be an early exit for the fifth-seeded Warriors.

Behrends struck out 22 Patoka batters in the final game of the fall season, and then struck out another 14 in a 7-2 win on March 24.

Both teams are riding hot streaks, with Patoka getting several games over .500 after starting the season at 3-8, and BSE winning 11 of its past 14 games. The winner gets top-seeded North Clay.

No. 2 South Central also gets a tough matchup, facing No. 3 Altamont in next Thursday’s semifinals. South Central won a regular-season matchup 5-3, but lost to Altamont in the fall season.
