-A A +A
By Andrew Harner

It was the Vandalia players who wanted to go for the two-point conversion in overtime, but that pass would fall incomplete to give Carterville a 35-34 overtime win in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Ryan Ambuehl had more than 30 carries during the game and played every down on offense, defense and special teams. He was the team's primary quarterback during the game, though senior Wade Cowger and sophomore Collin Nestleroad also took snaps.

There were many turnovers in the game for both teams, and 21 points were scored in the fourth quarter.

Junior Rodney Tedrick scored his first career touchdown to tie the game at 28-28.
