Citing the results of recent national studies, the Vandalia Police Department has decided to discontinue its DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at the end of this school year.
Police Chief Larry Eason said on Tuesday that studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Surgeon General’s Office and the National Academy of Sciences concluded that DARE is ineffective in reducing drug and alcohol use among young people.
