Vandalia man gets 3 prison sentences

A Vandalia man who was one of two men charged with causing damage to the Fayette County Jail agreed to three prison sentences earlier this week. In Fayette County Circuit Court on Monday, Fayette County Resident Circuit Judge Don Sheafor approved plea agreements accepted by Tyler J. Dunaway. Through the plea agreement, Dunaway accepted a one-year prison sentence on a charge of criminal damage to government-supported property. Dunaway was also sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of escape (failure to return from a furlough) and 30 months in prison on a charge of methamphetamine possession. Sheafor ruled that the three prison sentences are to be served concurrently. The office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison charged Dunaway on Feb. 14 with two counts of criminal damage to government-supported property. One of the charges, which alleges damage of more than $500 and less than $10,000, was a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. The other, alleging damage less than $500, was a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison. The charges against those two men allege that they removed foam insulation from a wall in the jail and flushed it down a toilet, “causing flooding and major plumbing issues.”
