Vandalia Lions' fireworks canceled

In a joint press release, the city of Vandalia, Vandalia Fire Department and Vandalia Lions Club have announced Monday morning that the fireworks display that was to be held at Vandalia Lake this Tuesday has been canceled.

Mayor Rick Gottman said, "All of us met late last week and determined that if no significant rain fell by 1 p.m. on Sunday, we would have no alternative but to cancel the fireworks display.

“Although the fireworks display is over the lake, it is the concern of all involved that the area around and behind the launching area is simply too dry to take the chance of causing a fire.

“This decision has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents surrounding this area and for those who would be helping with the show."
