Vandalia Health Center now offering women’s health, gynecology services

Katherine Matthews, MD, and Karen Hartzel, CNM, have joined the medical staff at Vandalia Health Center, which is located  at 1510 Sunset Drive in Vandalia.
Matthews will focus on women’s health and gynecology. She has 15 years of experience in women’s health and gynecology, and a strong interest in cancer and all menopausal issues.
Karen Hartzel, CNM, will provide women’s health and gynecology services. She began office hours on Aug. 16.
Hartzel received a bachelor's of science and a master's of science degrees in nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, and brings 13 years of experience to Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation.
In addition to the new providers, Katrina Vandeloo, family nurse practitioner, is on staff to provide family health needs.
Vandalia Health Center accepts Medicaid, Medicare, All-Kids and most insurance policies. The center also offers a sliding fee scale for patients who do not have health insurance.
The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. For appointments, call 283-3144.
Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation is a community-based, federally qualified health center network. It is comprised of more than 30 health centers in seven counties in Southern Illinois. In 2009, SIHF health centers saw 89,583 patients with 312,858 outpatient visits. The health centers provide the following services: family practice, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics and behavioral health services.
