The Vandalia golf team has had plenty of time on the course in past week as the season crossed its halfway point.

But the team gets a break now, as the next match won’t be until next Monday at Indian Springs Golf Course in Fillmore.

That comes a week after the last match, which saw the Vandals place third at Greenville.

Junior Jake Bowen had a 45 for the Vandals (6-9-1), and he was followed by junior Zach Schaal (46), freshman Alec Schroeder (50) and senior Jake Shulman (51) for a team score of 192.

Greenville (13-0) won the match, with a 161, and Breese Central’s 187 placed second.

Also at Greenville, the Vandals placed second last Thursday.

Shulman had the team’s low round of 45, and he was followed by Schaal (46), Schroeder (49) and Bowen (50) for a team score of 190.

Greenville was the winner, with a 165, and Pana finished third, with a 203.

Last Wednesday, the Vandals had their last match of the year at Vandalia Country Club, and they would finish second.

Schaal had a career-low round of 38 to place second among individuals in the match against Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

Following him were Shulman (41) Bowen (49) and Richie Well (49) for a team score of 177. CORL had a 159 to win.

Schroeder birdied Hole No. 5 for the first one of his career.

Last Tuesday, a short-handed Vandals squad was knocked off at Effingham.

Bowen (45), Schaal (47), freshman Levi Cox (49) and Schroeder (57) were the only ones to golf for Vandalia in the 198-151 loss.
