Senior Blake Swofford picked up his third golf medal of the season, leading the Vandals to their first team victory of the fall last Thursday.
Playing at Vandalia Country Club against Altamont and Ramsey, the Vandals were led by Swofford’s 3-under-par 32 in winning the event by 24 strokes.
Vandalia’s 174 was its lowest 9-hole team score of the season, and easily defeated Altamont (198) and Ramsey (203).
Swofford bogeyed the first hole of the afternoon, but finished strong, shooting birdies on holes 6-9 to win by six strokes.
Teammate Zach Jackson, a senior, was second, with a 38, his low round for the season.
Sophomores Zach Schaal (48) and Jake Bowen (56) rounded out the team scoring for the Vandals.
Others participating at the varsity level were seniors Leyton Godoyo (59) and Radley Wehrle (64).
On Monday, the Vandals were unable to make it two wins in a row, taking second at Litchfield against the hosts and Lincolnwood.
Swofford led the Vandals, shooting a 41 and finishing second overall. Lincolnwood’s Tate Snyder shot a three-over-par 38 to win the event.
Schaal had his lowest round of the season, hitting a birdie on hole No. 4 during a round of 44.
Godoyo (48) and Bowen (49) rounded out the team scoring, and each of them had their lowest rounds of the season, too.
Sophomores Adam Palmer (52) and Jake Shulman (59) also played for Vandalia.
