Vandalia baseball team has rough week

The Vandals had a tough slate of games this past week, going 0-3 and having two games washed out by rain on Saturday.

This week, Vandalia will host Shelbyville on Thursday and South Central on Monday. The Vandals travel to Greenville on Wednesday.

All games will start at 4:30 p.m.

Vandalia vs. Altamont
Altamont defeated Vandalia, 19-8, on Tuesday.

The Vandals led 5-3 after two innings, but the Indians piled on 10 runs in the final two innings to win.

Juniors Dathan Berning and Ian Murrell both had three hits in the game.

Vandalia at Pana
The Vandals lost their first conference game of the season last Friday, falling to Pana, 7-4.

Junior Trevor Montgomery and sophomore Leyton Godoyo both hit home runs during the third inning, but it was not enough to overcome consistent scoring from the Panthers.

Pana scored at least once in innings two through five.

Junior Nick Metzger took the loss. He pitched six innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Vandalia vs. Breese Central
Last Wednesday, Vandalia was shut out by Breese Central, 6-0.

Montgomery and junior Dathan Berning each had singles, but those were the only Vandal hits in the game.

Murrell corralled the Cougars well, except for the fifth inning when they scored four times. Murrell allowed six hits, but struck out seven batters.
