Vandal wrestling to open season on Monday

The Vandalia High School wrestling team will open its season with two home matches this week.

The first, a freshmen/sophomore quadrangular, is on Monday at 6 p.m., and that will be followed by a varsity match against Belleville West on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Coach Jason Clay said the team might start slow this season as he slowly adjusts several freshmen and sophomores to high school wrestling, but he said the team should have no problems winning its 17th straight regional championship and sending several individuals to the state tournament.
